About the Course

At the end of this course, you will be able to Apply cleaning of horizontal surfaces using the appropriate mechanical devices.

What You'll Learn

  • Identify the appropriate mechanical device for cleaning or polishing the assigned floor surfaces.

  • Select the appropriate PPE to perform cleaning or polishing of the hard floor surfaces with the use of the selected mechanical device.

  • Perform cleaning and/or polishing of floor surfaces using mechanical devices in accordance with organisational procedures and device manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Perform routine maintenance and checks on the mechanical device selected to ensure safe operation of the device.

  • Display the appropriate safety signage at designated area during the course of cleaning the surroundings.

  • Replenish consumables cleaning supplies used to ensure smooth cleaning operations with minimum delay.

  • Inform appropriate person or supervisor if work activities cannot be carried out.

  • Return the mechanical device used after completion of assigned work.

Assessment / Certificate:

You will receive a Statement of Attainment from SSG upon attainment of a minimum of 75% training attendance and pass the associated assessments.

Minimum Entry Requirements


  • Speak, listen and read English at a proficiency level not lower than Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3, and manipulate numbers at a level not lower than Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 3.

  • Never attended school; pre-primary / kindergarten education; primary education without PSLE / PSPE certification or equivalent.

  • Minimum of two months of work experience in the cleaning operations sector or as a General Cleaner, Indoor Cleaner, Outdoor Cleaner, Multi-Skilled Cleaner cum Machine Operator or with the interest to be employed in the industry.
